omb was commissioned by Simon Fraser University to transform an existing campus space at the Surrey Campus into the new Quantum Algorithms Institute (QAI). The project involved the renovation and modernization of an existing facility to support a growing research organization focused on advancing quantum computing technologies in British Columbia.
Developed within an active university environment, the facility was designed to support research, collaboration, learning, and industry engagement. The design required the creation of a highly flexible, technology-enabled workplace capable of accommodating a diverse range of users, including researchers, students, faculty, industry partners, and visiting organizations.
Working closely with SFU and QAI stakeholders, omb developed an adaptable and welcoming environment that supports collaboration, knowledge sharing, presentations, meetings, and day-to-day research activities. The project balanced specialized technical requirements with the need to create an inclusive, high-quality user experience that reflects the Institute’s position as a leader in emerging technologies and innovation.
The completed facility provides a contemporary home for the Institute while strengthening connections between academia, research, industry, and the broader community.
