Located at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus, the Education Building renewal modernizes the Faculty of Education’s teaching, learning, and administrative spaces through a comprehensive upgrade of both the building envelope and interior environments. The project enhances building performance while creating a more welcoming and cohesive environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
The renewal includes a new rainscreen enclosure that significantly improves thermal performance and durability while redefining the building’s architectural character. Integrated roof and wall assemblies incorporate skylights and high-performance glazing, bringing natural light deeper into interior spaces. Interior renovations improve the functionality and organization of academic, administrative, and shared areas, supported by an updated signage and wayfinding system that strengthens connections throughout the building. The work was carefully phased to allow the facility to remain fully operational throughout construction.
Daylight serves as a defining element of the project, shaping a series of bright and inviting interior spaces that support learning, collaboration, and informal interaction. Contemporary materials and carefully detailed interventions create a cohesive experience across the renewed facility, while landscape improvements reinforce connections between the building and the surrounding campus environment. Together, these updates revitalize a significant academic building and strengthen its role within the broader university community.
