Prince George Airport serves as a primary gateway to northern British Columbia, establishing a strong civic presence that reflects the character of the surrounding region. The design introduces warm, welcoming public spaces that reflect the local forestry industry through the prominent use of wood in departures and arrivals areas. Delivered through a phased expansion and renovation, the project improves the interface between public and operational zones while supporting evolving airport requirements.
The project includes the reorganization and expansion of passenger areas alongside the integration of back-of-house systems, including baggage handling and cargo processing. A new international departures area and associated customs facilities extend the airport’s capabilities, accommodating increased passenger volumes and broader connectivity. Public spaces are arranged to improve clarity, safety, and flow, creating a legible and efficient experience for travelers.
A central atrium introduces daylight deep into the building, establishing a bright and cohesive interior environment. Circulation is defined by a linear corridor articulated with mass timber elements and a wood screen that filters light and softens the spatial experience. These interventions connect the architecture to regional material traditions while reinforcing a clear and contemporary identity, establishing the airport as a memorable civic building and a welcoming representative of its community.
