Kelowna International Airport serves as a key gateway to British Columbia’s Okanagan region. The terminal expansion establishes a flexible framework for the airport’s continued evolution while enhancing capacity, passenger flow, and the overall travel experience. The project balances operational efficiency with a welcoming public environment, supporting the airport’s growing role within the region.
The expansion substantially increases departure lounge capacity and introduces a new security screening area, improving circulation and streamlining passenger processing. Direct access to south gates strengthens connections between departures and aircraft boarding, while upgrades to baggage systems, concessions, and passenger amenities support more efficient airport operations. The design integrates new and existing terminal spaces through a clear organizational strategy that improves wayfinding and creates a more intuitive journey for travellers.
A warm and contemporary material palette defines the expanded terminal, with extensive use of mass timber creating a distinctive architectural identity rooted in the character of the Okanagan. Generous glazing introduces natural daylight and frames views of the surrounding landscape, reinforcing a strong sense of place throughout the passenger experience. Together, these interventions create a welcoming and adaptable terminal environment that supports both operational performance and a memorable arrival and departure experience.
