omb has been a long-term partner in the transformation of Kelowna International Airport (YLW), shaping its future through strategic planning and design. Work began with the development of the airport’s master plan and phasing strategy for the expansion of the Air Terminal Building (ATB). Phase 1 of the ATB expansion, which is currently under construction, and marks a major step in modernizing the airport experience.
Building on this momentum, omb is now providing design services for a new Combined Operations Building (COB), a purpose-built facility that will bring together all fire and operations teams along with their emergency response and maintenance equipment. The new COB will streamline campus-wide operations by consolidating programs currently spread across multiple buildings. It will include drive-through bays to improve safety and emergency response times, along with second-floor offices, training spaces, and staff amenities.
Existing facilities are being upgraded to enhance circulation, simplify logistics, and strengthen security. This includes relocating the Non-Passenger Screening – Vehicles (NPS-V) facility with a new shelter and trailer, and reconfiguring fueling infrastructure. All improvements are being carefully phased to maintain uninterrupted airport operations, while ensuring the campus remains flexible and ready for future growth.
