This project provides a cohesive design solution for the Fairmont Hotel’s Oru restaurant from interiors to branding. The name ‘Oru’ has no direct translation but is derived from the Japanese word meaning “to fold”. The intention is to emphasize ‘folding’ as one of the key themes through the restaurants design and guest experience. Every detail is considered including the joinery of custom furniture, chop sticks, place settings and menu design. A dramatic 180ft long origami paper light sculpture runs the length of the restaurant adjacent a feature wood wall. This focal piece helps organizes the space and provides a strong visual element to draw patrons up to the restaurant from the Hotel lobby.
